North Potomac Community Recreation Center
The building of the long awaited new community center in North Potomac is finally on track. It is to be located at Mills Farm and Travilah Roads, at 13860 Travilah Road in Rockville. The $38 million construction project should start after site preparation work is complete in spring 2013.
North Potomac residents have been waiting since 2001 for this type of facility. The first step was gaining county approval of the design in 2010. Then there was a wait for funding, due to the delay of this project being left out of the 2011-2016 construction budget. The budget has been approved and it has been put on the special Capital Improvements Project list. Now, the community is just waiting for the construction of the recreation center to get underway, since many residents thought it would have been completed by now.
The 33,000 square foot community recreation center, on approximately 17 acres, will include a social hall, senior/community lounge, computer lab, kitchen, gymnasium, exercise room, game room, art rooms, rest rooms, with space allocated for conference rooms, office and storage space.
