Fall is here and so are all of the wonderful outdoor fun family (and delicious) activities! There are several orchards in Montgomery County that offer apple picking, pumpkin picking, fall festivals, hayrides and more, usually running through October 31.
Butler’s Orchard, on Davis Mill Road in Germantown, is geared up for fall festivities. Right now, you can pick your own apples, pumpkins and potatoes. They also have a great store to buy all kinds of delicious items and decorations. Butler’s Fall Festival is open on October weekends, from 10 am until 5 pm, and there is a charge for admission, but they include many activities such as corn and straw mazes, hayrides, giant slides and more! There will be live music, festival food and other activities. They will also be extending festivities this weekend to include Monday the 8th, Columbus Day.
Homestead Farm on Sugarland Road in Poolesville has a variety of apples ready for you to pick, a pumpkin patch ready for the picking, hayrides and even an animal farm to visit.
Rock Hill Orchard is located on Ridge Road (MD Rt. 27) in Damascus before you get to Mount Airy. Right now, you can enjoy a hayride to pick your own apples, pumpkins, flowers and herbs.
All of these farms and orchards have markets for your convenience, where you can purchase a variety of fruits, veggies, baked goods and other treats!
As a reminder, it’s always best to bring your own baskets or bags to carry your harvested fruit in. And, the USDA Good Agricultural Practices requires all family pets be left at home, with the exception of service animals.
