Homestead Tax Credit Applications Due!

Bethesda Real Estate

Effective October 1, 2007, a new law enacted by the 2007 session of the Maryland General Assembly requires all homeowners to make a one-time application in order to be eligible to receive or continue receiving the Homestead Tax Credit.

The Homestead Tax Credit law limits the annual amount of assessment increase on which an eligible resident homeowner actually pays County, Municipal and State property taxes. The application is required to insure that all property owners receive the credit on the one property used as their principal residence.

If an application is not submitted by December 31, 2012, the Homestead Tax Credit will be disallowed beginning with the July 31, 2013 tax year bill.

If you aren’t sure if you have applied, you can check the database, click here to search for your property tax record. Put in your county and address, and at the bottom of the page you will see what your status is.

We did a brief survey on our street and less than 50% of homeowners have applied. Follow the link below to apply online or print out the provided application below and mail yours in.

Click here for a link to Maryland’s Homestead Tax Credit Division or call 866-650-8783. To apply online you need a special access code, you have to call their office to get the application for the code.

Provided below is an application that can be printed for your convenience.
