Opening in 1956 in Bethesda, Walter Johnson High School and the surrounding area have gone through many changes throughout it’s history and maintains notable academic and athletic departments.
ACES Scholars – ACES, the Advanced Curriculum for Excellence in Science, is one of Walter Johnson’s Scholars programs.
AP Courses – AP courses are meant to give students an idea of what they will experience in a university class, but vary from ACES.
APEX Scholars – designed as a four year course of study through which a select group of students will follow a comprehensive curriculum combining accelerated honors level and intensive advanced placement level course work.
LEAD! Scholars – (Linguistic Excellence And Discovery) addresses students who wish to commit to a broad range of courses in Foreign Languages
UMCP Scholars – Young Scholars Program offers qualified seniors at Walter Johnson the opportunity to earn college credits with the University of Maryland.
Walter Johnson High School cluster includes North Bethesda and Tilden Middle Schools and Ashburton, Kensington, Parkwood, Wyngate, Farmland, Garrett Park, Luxmanor Elementary and Rock Terrace School.
