The city of Silver Spring can be confusing to navigate, seemingly due to it’s vague boundaries. It is larger than any other city in Maryland next to Baltimore. Silver Spring’s boundaries are within DC, Prince George’s and Howard Counties to the south, north and east, with Rock Creek and Plyers Mill Road to the west and northwest. Rock Creek passes along the west side of Silver Spring.

Shopping, a variety of diverse choice for ethnic dining, local and chain restaurant options, as well as annual events such as SilverDocs Documentary Film Festival, Jazz Festival and Thanksgiving Day Parade keep downtown Silver Spring bustling.
Silver Spring Beltway exits are at Colesville Road (MD 29), Georgia Avenue (MD 97) and New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650). There are also 4 exits onto the Intercounty Connector (ICC MD 200) located at Georgia Avenue, Layhill Road, New Hampshire Avenue and Columbia Pike (MD 29). The Brunswick line of the MARC train can be accessed at the Silver Spring Metro station (on Metro’s Red Line). Construction of the Purple Line Light Rail will connect Silver Spring with Bethesda.
Sligo Creek and Rock Creek flow along Silver Spring neighborhoods, offering hiking and biking trails, with playgrounds and picnic areas. The beautiful Brookside Gardens and Wheaton Regional Park are also encompassed with the boundaries of Silver Spring.
